We're looking for a motivated Designer / Fabricator to join our growing team.
This is an hybrid design and fabrication role for someone who enjoys working both behind a computer and in the shop. You'll be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept development and CAD modeling to prototyping, fabrication, assembly, and installation.
The ideal candidate is curious, organized, self motivated, and enjoys solving unique design challenges. They are comfortable taking ownership of projects while collaborating closely with the rest of the team.
This is a full time in person role at our Woburn MA studio.
Qualifications
Demonstrated skills in design and fabrication, including basic drafting, modeling, and hands-on construction or making.
Experience working with common fabrication tools and equipment (e.g., woodworking tools, metalworking tools, digital fabrication tools such as laser cutters or 3D printers).
Ability to translate project requirements into clear design concepts and prototypes, with attention to detail and function.
Strong collaborative and communication skills, including the ability to work closely with cross-disciplinary teams and clients.
Commitment to safe work practices, shop organization, and care of tools and materials.
Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities in a studio environment.
Relevant education or training in industrial design, architecture, engineering, fabrication, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Interest or experience in research-based design, problem solving, and working across both artistic and technical applications; familiarity with medical or architectural projects is a plus.
Responsibilities
Develop concepts, CAD models, and production drawings
Design products, exhibits, displays, and custom fabricated components
Create prototypes and iterate designs through testing
Prepare files for CNC routing, laser cutting, 3D printing, and fabrication
Fabricate projects using wood, plastics, metals, and composite materials
Assemble, finish, and quality check completed projects
Assist with installation of projects on site as needed
Organize project documentation and maintain accurate production files
Work closely with clients, vendors, and internal team members
Help improve fabrication processes and shop efficiency
What We're Looking For
The right person isn't just a designer or just a fabricator.
They're someone who enjoys asking questions, solving problems, and figuring out the best way to build something that may have never existed before. They are comfortable moving between the computer and the shop, taking ownership of their work, and contributing ideas throughout the design process.
