Interdisciplinary artist Yu-Wen Wu was commissioned by the Rose Kennedy Greenway to create an installation for the entrance to Boston’s Chinatown community. She worked with individuals throughout that community to gain inspiration for the work. Yu Wen transformed the stories she collected from this research into colorful collages. Jaywalk joined the team to design and implement a system that converted her compositions into functional Chinese lanterns. This process involved a lot of testing, engineering, and collaboration. The collection of 31 unique lanterns was installed at Chin Park during the Fall of 2020. The work functioned as a source of illumination and connection during a year where similar artifacts were difficult to come by.
